At Sholay Adventure Camp by PSR Enthrals, we host countless schools and organizations for outdoor experiential learning. We are used to guiding, facilitating, and teaching. But every once in a while, a group of students comes along and ends up teaching us.
We recently had the absolute privilege of hosting the students from Prakriya Green Wisdom School (by K N A Foundation) for a two-night adventure camp. Firstly, we want to extend our deepest gratitude for the opportunity to serve your students. What unfolded over those two days was nothing short of extraordinary—a series of beautiful "shockers" that left our instructors entirely in awe.
Here are a few moments from the camp that completely changed our perspective on outdoor education.
Curiosity, Safety, and Humility
Normally, our instructors take the lead on explaining safety rules and guiding kids step-by-step. However, these students were completely different from any we have handled before.
They were incredibly humble, yet deeply inquisitive. They didn’t just want to do the activities; they wanted to understand the mechanics behind them. By experimenting and asking thoughtful questions, these kids actively set their own parameters for safety, analyzing what was doable for them and what wasn't. It was our first time witnessing such a mature, self-reliant approach from school children.
Not Just Teachers: Akkas and Annas
After the initial ice-breaking and rope activities, we noticed something heartwarming. The students didn't refer to their teachers formally; they called them Akka (Sister) and Anna (Brother).
While we often see students use casual fillers with their teachers, this was different. They treated their educators like true family members. Over the entire two-night stay, there were zero tears, zero complaints of homesickness, and no one missing their parents. They felt entirely safe and at home because their Akkas and Annas were right there with them, providing the comfort of a family.
A Profound Connection to Food
For meals, we arranged a standard, wholesome vegetarian menu. When it was time to eat, we experienced our next big surprise.
Instead of us serving the food and the kids simply eating it, the students began speaking to our instructors, explaining exactly how the vegetables on their plates were grown and the process of cooking them! They shared stories of farming and cultivation that even some of our own team didn't fully know. The most admiring part? Not a single child skipped their vegetables or left any food on their plate. Because they understood the effort it takes to grow food, they deeply respected it.
Building an Ecosystem
During the day, the kids learned how to pitch their tents. As night fell, we witnessed something magical.
In our experience, instructors usually have to set up the tents and beds for the kids and teachers. Not this time. These students jumped in to help each other, setting up beds for their friends, as well as for their Akkas and Annas. Watching them work together under the stars felt less like a school trip and more like a small, self-sustaining village with its own beautiful ecosystem.
The Bigger Picture
At the end of the second day, we had a wonderful conversation with one of the teachers, Anna- Mr Nain. It all suddenly made sense.
We learned that Prakriya Green Wisdom School isn't a traditional, conventional school. The entire curriculum is built around experiential learning, holistic living, and deep exploration. They aren't just raising children to chase marks; they are raising self-reliant, open-minded, and environmentally conscious human beings who face situations with a humble attitude and a genuine eagerness to learn.
We are so incredibly happy to know that a school like this exists in Bangalore—one that focuses on a child’s lifestyle, their bond with nature, and building a sustainable future.
